Our Thirteenth Annual Distinguished Christian Statesman Award Dinner was held on Wednesday, June 25, in the elegant Cannon Caucus Room in the Cannon Building on Capitol Hill. Approximately one hundred fifty people, including seventeen Congressmen, attended this special event in order to honor Rep. Mike Pence from Indiana. Rep. Pence is a humble servant who is an incredible ambassador for Christ on Capitol Hill. He shared his heart with the attentive audience when he was presented with the 2008 Distinguished Christian Statesman Award.
Rep. Pence serves on several committees in Congress. As a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Pence traveled to visit troops serving in Iraq in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. He also has led congressional delegations to Afghanistan, Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan. Rep. Pence has received many awards during his time in Congress, but we honored him for being a true Christian statesman, one whose commitment to Christ and love of country compel him to stand for truth and righteousness in government.
This was an elegant event with Mrs. Anne Kennedy, the wife of our founder, assisting in the presentation of the DCS Award. Our president of Evangelism Explosion, John Sorensen, and his wife Ann were also in attendance.
The lovely evening began with melodious music by a harpist. Last year’s winner, Rep. Todd Akin of Missouri, inspired the audience with his words of wisdom. Chris Holloway, a famous soloist and friend of our ministry, uplifted our spirits with glorious hymns of praise. The evening was a great blessing to everyone.
